Language points

1.When is your birthday,Linda?你的生日是什么时候,琳达?

when是疑问副词,意为“什么时候”,引导特殊疑问句,其结构为:“When+一般疑问句?”,回答时可用介词in,on,at等引导的表示时间的介词短语。

—When is Jay Chou's birthday?

—His birthday is on January 18th.

2.My birthday is on May 2nd.我的生日是五月二日。

On May 2nd中的介词on可以省略,May 2nd意为“五月二日”,在表示日期时,要注意以下几点:在美式英语中,记载方法是按月、日、年的顺序,“日”与“年”中间要用逗号隔开,书写时“日”可以写成序数词形式,也可直接写成阿拉伯数字形式,但读时一定读作序数词。

April 10th,1997=4/10/1997 即1997年4月10日。

在英式英语中,记载方法是按日、月、年的顺序,其他同上面所讲相同。

10th April,1997=10/4/1997 即1997年4月10日。
